Plitvice Lakes are located on the territory of 294,82 km². Thanks to the unique beauty and rich natural fauna, this place has been declared as a park since 1949. And since 1979. by the decision of UNESCO, Plitvice Lakes were entered in the list of world heritage monuments of nature.
The park includes 16 major lakes with water colored jewels connected with 92 cascades and waterfalls that have appeared because of sedimentation of travertine 40 000 years ago. The largest lakes are Kozjak and Prošćansko lake. There are organized trips with a small motor boats. Around the lake there are wooden walking bridges which connect the walking routes around the lake. In the lake there are protected species of trout and 157 bird species, 76 species of butterflies (those active by day) and 245 species of moths (those active at night).. The difference in height of the uppermost and lowest lake is 136 m.The highest waterfall (78 m) is called Plitvice.
On this excursion we will visit the most beautiful areas of the National Park, get to know the local flora and fauna, and then take a rest from the walk in a nearby restaurant.
