Varaždin is the town of harmony and hospitality. It is understandable why it is called the town of music, baroque and flowers. In Medieval time it was a strong defence fortress on river Drava. It was for a long time the political centre of Croatia.
Old part of the town consists of the castle built from 13th century until 18th century. Towers in the fortress are connected with Renaissance galleries from 16th century. Town museum is situated there today. In the town centre there is "ratuša" - the historical town hall. The town's leaders have had their sessions there since year 1523. It is interesting that the building has kept its primary look. You should also pay attention to two churches: The cathedral of Holy Virgin Mary's Assumption from 17 century and the Church of St.John the Baptist known for made gold plated altar chair made by artisans from plated gold.
